With that said, C# presents many challenges for the beginner programmer. It isn’t an easy language to learn in the beginning, but that’s where this guide comes in handy! I will help you build a foundation of C# programming, coupled with many exercises which will test what you learn.
If you have ever been interested in learning a programming language, or C# specifically, but found the task daunting, this book will help you overcome that fear. Mastering the basics is essential and I can guarantee that by the time you finish the final exercise you will have a fantastic understanding of C#!
Who is this guide for?
1. First-time C# programmers who want a quick start;
2. Anyone who wants a handy C# guide to refer to;
3. Anyone interested in creating C#programs
Throughout this guide, I will be teaching you the basics of C#.
What is most important in the beginning is having a fantastic program to work with and test your code. There are many free IDEs and applications that will do just that, but the greatest by far is Visual Studio. With many useful features, it makes for an excellent environment for any beginner programmer.
I will show you how to download and install this software, step-by-step with pictures! Visual Studio will work on all of the major OSs; Microsoft, iOS (Apple) and Linux.
Once you have Visual Studio setup, I will be showing you how to set up a project and start coding. From there, I will introduce you to your first line of code. I will show you how to output information, what kinds of data you will be working with as a C# programmer and how to manage it.
I will show you how to retrieve user input, giving your consumer the power to enter in their information. After which, I will arm you with the necessary code to take that basic data and turn it into information. User input is important, as it is the user who will issue the commands to your program. Your program should be able to recognise those commands and perform the right actions.
With a variety of methods and statements, doing so can be incredibly easy!
In short, this guide will save you from the beginner confusion of Java. Step-by-step, I will show you new code, what it does and its various applications. Making the code so simple will help you logically piece your programs together, building those essential, problem-solving skills. Once you have finished each section, I will provide you with some practical work to ensure you have a great understanding of your code.
Don’t worry if you get stuck, as the answers are at the back for you to work off of!
By the end of this book, you will have a measure of mastery over basic Java, but you can always keep the guide handy as a reference. It will become one of the many useful books you refer to in your studies or programming work, so be sure to take advantage of it!
I hope you enjoy the guide, as well as find it useful.
Happy learning, programmer!
