Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications are everywhere and dominate news stories almost daily. Recent months have witnessed a surge of interest in AI due to the rollout of ChatGPT and other large language models. However, alongside the excitement, there is also a sense of unease. On the one hand, the public is told of the immense benefits that AI can bring to humanity. On the other hand, they know of AI’s safety concerns and ethics. This has led to a chasm between the way the public perceives AI. This partly stems from the fact that AI and human intelligence have evolved through different processes. In this book, I explain why this problem arises. Using a range of AI techniques, I also show how to bridge this gap and foster a better understanding of how AI and human intelligence can complement each other. The later chapters explore the challenges of human-AI co-existence and explain how the transition from AI to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) could improve the synergy between humans and AI.
